這是神經元的傳導,神經元可分為樹突(dendrite)與軸突(axon),這是神經元的基本單位,也就是一個神經感受體的基本架構

三叉神經(trigeminal nerve)的基本分配如→三叉神經  ,它的下顎支,會分支為下齒槽神經(inferior alveolar nerve)與舌神經(lingual nerve),下齒槽神經最後會有一支從mental foramen出來,這一個孔,稱為mental foramen(頦孔),如圖→mental foramen  ,其位置恰好位於下顎小臼齒的牙根附近,所以在打骨釘的時候,這個位置一定要避開,再看一次圖示→mental foramen

下齒槽神經於mental foramen處分成兩終末枝--incisive nerve和mental nerve。Incisive nerve留在下頜管內形成一個神經叢，此神經叢之牙齒分枝支配下顎canine及incisor牙周組織的感覺。Mental nerve從神經管內出來，通過mental foramen後分成三條分枝。這些分支可支配下巴皮膚和下labial的mucosa的感覺
